1. Standard tickets
1.1 Validity
A ticket is valid for one journey on the selected route on the date stated on the ticket.
The ticket also allows free travel by train, bus, metro, and local/light rail in the departure and arrival zones indicated on the ticket. However, this does not apply to tickets for local journeys of 1-3 zones in Jutland and Funen.
The ticket is not tied to a specific departure time. You are free to choose any connection if it is within the current ticket day.
DSB’s ticket day does not follow a normal calendar day but is valid from 04:00 AM until 03:59 AM the following day.
If you purchase a ticket for departure between 12:00 AM and 03:59 AM, its validity will follow the calendar day, but your journey must have started by no later than 03:59 AM.
You can also purchase a first-class upgrade (DSB 1') with an additional cost depending on whether you travel by InterCity or regional trains. Read more about services on DSB 1. If you are traveling with InterCity, you can find the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's smiley reports here.
1.1.1 Specifically for Tickets to Bornholm
You must use the ferry departure listed in your travel plan.
Traveling to Bornholm involves taking an Øresund train to Malmö/Hyllie. From Malmö/Hyllie you switch to a Swedish Pågatåg that takes you all way to Ystad. In Ystad, you transfer onto a ferry bound for Rønne. The ticket is valid throughout your entire journey including access pass for the ferry services. Please note that an access pass to the ferry is required for all departures.
1.2 Customer Categories
You can purchase a ticket as an adult, child, youth, or senior.
Read more about customer types in the Joint National Travel Regulations
If you are traveling as a child, youth or senior, you may be asked to provide documentation that you are eligible to travel under that category.
1.3 Refunds
A ticket can be refunded up until the day before the departure date. When you purchase multiple tickets at once, you can only get them refunded together.
2. Zone tickets
2.1 Availability of Zone tickets
For travel in Zealand, you can purchase DOT zone tickets (2-8 zones) which are valid for train, bus, local rail, and Metro. For travel in North Jutland (NT area), you can buy zone tickets (2-26 zones). These are valid for train, bus and local rail. You can also purchase zone tickets that are only valid for bus travel and the local railways Vemb-Lemvig-Thyborøn and Esbjerg-Varde-Nørre Nebel.
2.2 Validity
A zone ticket is valid from an initial zone as well as the number of zone rings indicated on it. These tickets have time restrictions. The ticket must always be purchased with a starting point (initial zone) in the zone where you physically begin your journey. Date along with initial zone, start and end time appear on the ticket.
In certain cases, you can buy a zone ticket for DSB 1'. The additional price depends on whether you travel by InterCity or regional train. Read more about services on DSB 1. If you are traveling with InterCity, you can find the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's smiley reports here.
2.2.1 Zone tickets specifics when it comes to Midttrafik/Sydtrafik Local Trains
Zone tickets for local trains between Vemb-Lemvig-Thyborøn and Esbjerg-Varde-Nørre Nebel are only valid for buses and local trains.
2.3 Customer categories
You can purchase a zone ticket as an adult, child, youth, or senior.
Read more about customer categories in the Joint National Travel Regulations
If you are traveling as a child, youth or senior you may be asked to provide documentation that you are eligible to travel under that category.
2.4 Refunds
A ticket can be refunded until the day before the departure date.
3. Ticket extension for 1 zone or supplement for travel in the Metro
3.1 Validity
the ticket extension remains exclusively available within DOT's area on Zealand and the islands.
A Ticket extension can extend the validity on an already active Commuter Card, Öresund Card, Commute20 or Senior citizens Card by exactly one extra zone.
A Ticket extension can also grant rights to use the Metro, if you have a valid commuter card in zone 1-4, but have opted out of the metro supplement, when buying your commuter card.
You must purchase the ticket extension before the validity of your card expires and before you begin your journey in the additional zone or board the metro. You can travel unlimitedly by bus, train, or metro within the validity period, which is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
3.2 Refunds
The ticket is non-refundable.
4. DSB Basic Travel Time Guarantee
Regardless of whether you travel on tickets, zone tickets, Orange, or Orange Fri tickets, you may be covered by the DSB Basic Travel Time Guarantee if you experience delays of 30 minutes or more on your train journey. Read more here.
